OMA Space designed Euphoria as a tangible and immersive space to present various creations or performances within it.
This installation includes a transparent circular screen made of hemp on which a video with original ambient sound is projected.
This video shows 칠면초(Suaeda Japonica) or East Asian Seepweed growing in mud salt marches on the southern coast of Korea.
This radiant red plant is filmed swinging in the wind in an endless lateral traveling expressing the euphoria of nature dancing in the light.
Inside, a circular table covered with a black rice husk relief presents a collection of ceramics from several artisans.
This presentation is made with an alternating rotating play of lights that resonates with the video in motion on the circular screen.
This interior space in continuous movement creates a feeling of lightness and euphoria for the audience who circulate at their own pace around the table to discover and contemplate the works presented.
For OMA Space, euphoria is a transcendental state which generates a pleasurable elevation to another level of perception.
On the same principle of this installation, the studio designed a Korean Tea Ceremony performance.
In the center of the table a master of ceremonies leads a tea tasting according to an ancestral ritual for around twenty to thirty guests seated around the table. Furthermore, this table is going to be used as a stage for individual performers to empathize this installation for people’s experience.
‘우리의 순수한 가능성을 예술을 통해 발현시키고 감각적 경험을 좀 더 자유롭게 느껴볼 수 있는 공간이란 어떤 것인가’에 대해 연구했다.
Euphoria(유포리아)는 초월적인 상태이며, 현상을 다른 차원으로 인식하여 우리의 육체와 정신이 새롭고 깊은 감각세계로 도달하게 된다.
이 공간은 가장 기본적인 인간의 여섯가지 감각기관(안의비설신의)을 통해 경험하고 느끼도록 디자인 되었다.
우리는 여러 방법으로 도취 되지만 특히, 예술에 도취되기가 가장 쉽다.
“낮에 잃은 것을, 밤이여, 돌려다오(괴테, <파우스트> 中)”
저자는 낮이 이성의 시간이라면 밤은 상상력의 시간이며, 낮이 사회적 자아의 세계라면 밤은 창조적 자아의 시간이라고 설명한다.
밤은 우리를 차분하게 만들고, 다시 앞으로 나아갈 수 있는 힘을 재생시키는 시간이다.
그 밤의 시간을 예술적으로 느끼고 풀어낼 수 있는 방법을 고안하여 원형의 탁자는 밤의 달처럼 떠있고,
그 둘레에 사람들이 둘러 앉아 차와 술을 마시고, 사색을 하며 혼자만의 시간을 즐기게 된다.
앞에 놓여진 오브제를 심연으로 바라볼 수 있도록 조명은 감도와 시간차를 두어 집중도 있게 보고 느낄 수 있도록 연출했다.
또한 사운드와 비디오 작업을 감싸는 천연 삼베의 거칠고 원초적인 질감 안에서 ‘유포리아’라는 환상적인 공간을 경험한다.
특별히 이번 프로젝트는 극장으로 활용되던 공간에서 처음 선보이게 되어, 단순한 관람을 넘어 오감을 자극하고 충분한 몰입형 체험을 할 수 있는 시간을 마련하였다.
마음을 가라앉히고 차분하게 몰입하여 작품 하나하나를 관찰하고 응시하면서 충분한 시간을 가지고 머물러 보시기 바란다.
그러면 어둠이 짙게 깔린 밤, 예술을 벗삼아 거니는 산책길에 우연히 만나는 당대의 풍류를 만나게 된다.
